Oakwood Christian Academy (OCA) is a ministry of Oakwood Baptist Church (OBC). As such, it adheres to the doctrinal statement of OBC. Teachers and administrative staff at OCA must be born-again Christians who are committed to Jesus Christ, knowing their lives serve as examples to those whom they teach.

All students develop a worldview. A worldview as a collection of basic assumptions about life and the world, creating vision through which the individual can see. Research conducted by George Barna has noted that most children begin developing their own worldview by the age of 2. The child’s moral compass is fairly determined by the age of 9, and by the time a child turns 13, worldview is usually fully formed and set.

We teach and apply all subjects from the perspective of a Biblical worldview. This means we teach our students to view life through the lens of truth revealed in the Bible.

The philosophy of a biblical-worldview education is rooted in the conviction that God is the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient Creator. All things exist by the Word of His power and are sustained by Him (Colossians 1:17). God’s revealed truth is the Bible. It is the absolute standard to instruct our thinking and understanding about God’s world. A biblical-worldview education is predicated on the revealed Word of Christ (John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1). We use a biblical framework in areas such as mathematics, arts, history, sciences (biology, physics, etc.), literature, logic, morality, personal relationships, missions and evangelism.

It is not the school's place to be the primary training center for children. The school is to never take the place of home teaching and training (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Psalm 78:5-7; Ephesians 6:4). Therefore, children need instruction, guidance, and modeling from parents in the home as a foundation upon which the school and church may build. The family, church, and school should all have the same goal: “This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:13)
