OCA Admissions and Enrollment Process

Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at Oakwood Christian Academy (OCA)!  We understand how important schooling decisions are, and we are here to assist you in any way we can. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you as you complete the steps below.

For the 2023-2024 school year, we are accepting applications for Kindergarten through 8th grade starting on March 1st.

OCA guidelines for Kindergarten are that the child should be 5 years old on or before August 31st of the school year. Please contact the school if your child has a "late" birthday, and you feel they are academically and socially ready.

OCA Admissions and Enrollment Process Steps

STEP TWO: APPLICATION

To apply for OCA, you are  asked to complete an onine application through FACTS and pay the application fee. Here is a list of items OCA will be asking during the application process:

  • Application for Admission
  • Application Fee
  • Recent and Previous Report Cards
  • Standardized Test Scores from the last 12 months
  • Birth Certificate
  • Signed Statement of Faith
  • Signed Statement of Support
  • If your student has an IEP, please send the school a copy, so we can determine if we can meet their needs.

STEP THREE: ENTRANCE EXAMINATION OR DOCUMENTATION

After we have received your application paperwork, we will set up a time for you to bring your child in for an entrance examination and/or ask you to submit academic transcripts from previous schools.

Students who enter as Kindergartners will be expected to take an entrance examination/screener. This examination/screener will be used to obtain benchmark data of the student academic level. This data will be used for future classroom instruction and grouping.

There is no entrance exam at this time for most students in grades 1-8 if an official transcript from a school district or the Homeschool Association, grade reports, assessment scores, attendance records, behavior record, 504 plans, individual education plans (IEP) can be submitted to the OCA administrative team.

If a student is homeschooled, parents will have to submit an official transcript from the Homeschool Association and/or any documentation about the student’s grades, assessments, attendance, behavior, etc. If the parents cannot provide an official transcript from the Homeschool Association, an interview will have to be scheduled to discuss the student’s homeschool performance, grades, assessments, etc. All documentation about grades, assessments, attendance, behavior, etc.  will need to be submitted to the OCA administration team prior to the meeting and the student will have to complete a diagnostic assessment for reading, writing, and math.

It is the policy of Oakwood Christian Academy not to admit transfer students whose accomplishments have not been up to acceptable standards and/or do not have an official transcript from the Homeschool Association and/or school distraction and/or do not documentation of grades, assessments, etc. to show the academic achievement of a homeschooler.

STEP FOUR: PARENT AND STUDENT INTERVIEW

Part of the application process includes a sit-down interview with each family. Interviews allow parents and OCA faculty and staff to ask questions and determine if OCA is the best fit for the student. Both parents and the prospective student(s) will meet with the admissions committee and administrator.

STEP FIVE: ENROLLMENT

After evaluation of the forms submitted, testing results, and the interview, a decision will be made by the admissions committee regarding the status for entry into the school. If applicable, each family will receive an email with the decision and next steps.
